Sunday Morning With The Bluebirds, May 1, 2022
A busy morning for our bluebirds. At least one pair of tree swallows is interested in the other nesting box on our deck and I put out a new mealworm feeder. Both bluebirds were keeping a watchful eye on the boxes and negotiating with the swallows. Mr. Bluebird stood on the second box for much of the morning, apparently trying to explain ‘go away.’ We’ve had both swallows and bluebirds before, but never with clutches at the same time. Let’s see if the bluebirds decide they want neighbors. Mrs. Bluebird’s keen eye had her snacking on mealworms about ten minutes after the feeder went up.
Today is the first day the chicks might hatch. We’ve probably got a few more days, but I’ll be watching.
We’re watching eastern bluebirds nesting inside a nesting box with a camera installed to let us watch without disturbing the birds.
